Maleficent Piece Coming along…

The layouts and composition of the piece are pretty much done.  I’ve put a bit of detail in specific spots where I feel I need to concentrate on.

I should be starting to ink this bad boy very soon.

maleficent draft 2

Maleficent Piece (first draft)

I’ve returned from Disneyland an inspired man!

As some of you may know, there is a gallery within the park where you can purchase some Disney related art.  As my girlfriend and I wandered and stared in Aw at some of the pieces it occurred to me that I might be able to create some Disney art of my own.

If this piece comes together, perhaps I will submit it.  I know my girlfriend loves Maleficent from Sleepy Beauty, so that is the simple inspiration for my first Disney drawing.

Sketching at Did’nyland

I went to Disneyland yesterday. Maybe you’ve heard of it? This is also my first time visiting the west coast. The weather is great, the hotel is decent, and everything is expensive so I figured I would enjoy it and draw a little.

Here is a Disney character (sigh)

When I was a young wart hog…I mean young man, it wasn’t that cool to be into comic books. So I got really, really into comics.

Nowadays, comic book films and tv shows are so mainstream that it’s weird not to be into everything comics.

I’m not complaining seeing as how I used to dream of what these larger than life characters would look like in the real world. Some translate perfectly fine, as long as they’re covered in armor hiding a less than impressive physique.

These days, I find myself missing the old school spandex look. Huge pectorals, lots of definition, huge bulge, etc…

So here is a Comic book version of the First Avenger, Captain America.
Don’t forget to like, and follow. You’ll get one from me too!

It’s Morphin’ Time!

Just trying to draw more…

I Read about the production of the newest franchise reboot…POWER RANGERS and got really excited.

I was a big fan of the show when it first aired in the US.  The crude spandex suit, the seemingly cardboard-clad Zords, and even the hastily dubbed lines caught my attention.

I always thought that the Rangers could look cooler, but things were different in the early 90’s.  They didn’t have a huge budget so they made do with what they could.

Enter the Power Rangers movie!  They totally retooled the suits giving them weight, toughness and a cool factor not yet achieved by the tv show.  I believe it was at this point in my life where I became intrigued by concept/character design.  I spent hours drawing my version of the Power Rangers.

For years to follow, I wondered how the re imagined Batman and Superman films would make my beloved heroes look on the big screen!  How would the X-Men look in these “realism is everything” times?

I have yet to really contribute to that world on a professional level.  It was and sometimes still is a dream to be a part of it.

So, upon hearing news of this reboot I have decided to contribute.  This was just a sketch, but it got the creative juices flowing.  That’s what I need right now.

Power Ranger idea

The inspiration for this design came from the popular Marvel films where the characters are seemingly covered in layer upon layer of armor, Lycra and a myriad of other material. So I went with the, “Is that a super hero or motocross enthusiast?” approach.
I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite style.  Just the most popular.  I will experiment with a much more fluid, pleasing on a personal level style next.

Thanks for reading and viewing.  Keep watching out for more posts!
